1. Officer Reports

  • President's Report
  • Treasurer's report * There’s money in the bank
    • Last year’s taxes are in Geoff’s hands, and all is filed
  • Education: Darrel Knutson * We canceled all classes for the month of June to give the board time to define the actual policy on classes for Quelab. I am talking to individuals who are interested in teaching classes in sewing and blacksmithing for July and beyond. I can not proceed until the actual policy has been defined.
    • New classes for welding and woodworking will be determined after the board has defined the policy and established the rules. I anticipate being able to offer two welding, a woodworking, a sewing and a blacksmithing classes in July.
  • Events Officer: position currently vacant
  • Membership: Sara Simon * Here is the membership report as of June 1: * Active Members: 7 Associate, 29 Student, 66 Sustaining, 102 Total * Overdue Dues: 6 student, 5 sustaining
    • Lapsed: 1 Associate, 1 Director, 12 Student, 30 Sustaining, 44 Total
    • New: 2 Associate, 15 Student, 15 Sustaining, 32 Total
  • Outreach: Charel Morris * Continuing to outreach * Talks with City Hall on the community centers & interest in makerspaces. Darren stepped up & met with him. He approached both FUSE & us.
    • We have not discussed the role Quelab would play with Makerspaces in community centers that he is interested in.
    • Money is an issue, but it’s the city, so what else is new?
    • Darren met with him for only, and that included a space tour
    • He is interested in a breakfast meeting with Charel
  • Social Media: Rebecca Snyder * Sent out an update to the TinyLetter list this past month * Also going to post about the Rocket
  • Assets: Darren Moody * A gentleman donated a BUNCH of stuff - across a bunch of stuff - woodworking, stained glass & misc other stuff * Another gent donated two nice laptops
    • Cubicle walls put up in Annex, including a small meeting area. Please keep the tables in the meeting area clear.
  • Facilities: John Murray * Updated sketch of Quelab Annex floor plan and shop exhaust fan calculations submitted to William Burke III for The City of Albuquerque Planning Department, Building and Safety, Change of Use Application, which will hopefully lead to a Building Occupancy Permit * If anyone knows a licensed HVAC contractor, we need to add a ventilation fan in the shop area
    • A roof repair is scheduled for tomorrow
    • John will need to look at cooling in the Annex
  • Rental: Darren Moody * Some changes & corrections need to be made in Wild Apricot in regard to rentals.. Some renters are not set up in correctly in WA, while one or more of the amounts is set to the wrong amount, and one renter increased how much space he was renting but that change was not reflected in WA. * Once these corrections and setups are made, the expected monthly income from rentals will be: $142.50 each month.
    • Currently there are three (3) White Bench Spaces ($22.50 per month) available for rent.
  • Area Captains
  • 3-D Printing: Josh Pedersen * Nothing to report at this time
  • Arcade - Troy Ross * Walls are textured, painted the ceiling, custom light fixtures are in place, with a remote control if you need to adjust settings. Adric suggests pointing the remote at the floor
  • Electronics Lab: Aaron Birenboim * When you’re done, please clean off the benches * Each bin of tools should be a self-contained set of tools for each area
  • Fiber Arts: Sherie Pennebaker * There’s an interest in sewing machine usage/simple sewing training, and members willing to do it. I’ll work with others to set something up or help others do so. * Stained glass area is shaping up, with some donation of materials & tools
    • She moved the small kiln into the annex area, but we need the area by the electronic circuit boxes for that…
  • Laser: Craig Goldsmith * No reported problems * Will be ordering a new honeycomb this week, so hopefully before month end.
    • When you’re done, please clean off all flat surfaces & empty the garbage can
  • Metal Shop: Eric Lee * No injuries reported, all machines functional, except for the X-Carve * Training revamp - updated the list of people asking for training, with Wily & Darrel at the top of the list.
  • Welding: John Murray * Lots of meetings with the Board, working on welding classes
  • Woodshop: Gonner Menning * The rocket is gone, The launch was a spectacular failure, with the engine mount failing within a second of the launch * Be sure to turn on the dust collector when you use the table saw; it was completely jammed earlier this week
