Training & Problems

To get trained to use Quelab's 3D Printers, sign up for the 3d-printing mailing list, then send a request, asking for training. While there are often training-qualified members attending HackNight1), without prior agreement there is no guarantee someone will be there that can train you.

For information on troubleshooting, please refer to the print troubleshooting page for how to figure out what's going wrong.

Materials

Different 3D printers accept different materials. Check the page for whichever printer you are using to identify allowable filament.

The table below specifies costs of materials kept at Quelab.

All values are in per-gram increments of ALL consumed materials, including failed prints and support material.

Material Members Non-Members
ABS $0.10 $0.20
PLA $0.10 $0.20
NinjaFlex2) TBD: Likely in the $0.60/g range
IGUS Tribo Go get a sample from IGUS. It's expensive.

Materials must be cleared by a 3D printing officer.

Materials previously cleared for use in the 3D printers:

  • Filamentium / FilamentOne PLA Extrafill
  • Zen Toolworks ABS and PLA
  • NinjaFlex
  • IGUS Tribo filament

Any material that is in the 3D printing room is considered cleared if it is on the rack above the 3D printers.

1)
Hacknight is Quelab’s version of an active open house. We encourage our members to show up to work on projects, be social, and at the same time invite interested persons of the community to come on down and check it out. This also allows non-members to try out the space and to start making, as well as meet current members. Hacknights are also a great time to take a tour, get policy orientation, as well as some group training.
